"Navy Casualty-PERS-62

The mission of the Navy Casualty Assistance Division (PERS-62) Millington is to provide timely, compassionate and caring assistance for Navy families in times of need. The Navy Casualty Assistance Division consists of:

Primary Response Branch (PERS-621),
Survivors Benefit and Entitlements Policy Branch (PERS-622),
Casualty Case Settlement Branch (PERS-623)
Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Branch (PERS- 624).

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES:

Casualty Assistance Calls Program (CACP) is managed regionally by Casualty Assistance Calls/Funeral Honors Support (CAC/FHS) Program Coordinators. The CAC/FHS Program Coordinators assign and train Casualty Assistance Calls Officers (CACOs) within their areas of responsibility. CACOs are encouraged to maintain contact with their CAC/FHS Program Coordinator until all possible assistance has been provided to the next of kin. CAC/FHS Program Coordinators are an excellent source for casualty assistance information. They also coordinate the funeral honors program.

Flag Officer Casualty Action Board (FOCAB) - FOCAB provides real-time assessment of casualty cases. Board members are senior naval officers and civilian officials who actively review all aspects of casualty assistance. FOCAB identifies, reviews, and resolves systemic problems in the casualty assistance area.

Emergency Coordination Center (ECC) Operations - The Emergency Coordination Center is staffed by duty personnel in the event of a mass casualty situation. The ECC provides assistance by:

1. Answering telephone inquiries.
2. Providing family members with information and referral..
3. Acting as a clearinghouse for information in mass casualty scenarios.

Training - Annual seminars are held at most military installations for training the prospective Casualty Assistance Calls officer on the major issues affecting their duties. Contact your nearest Casualty Assistance Calls/Funeral Honors Support (CAC/FHS) Program Coordinator for details.

Retired Casualty Assistance Program (RCAP) - Losing a loved one is a difficult and confusing time. The Retired Activities Branches assist surviving family members by:

1. Providing the "Retiree Survivors Guide."
2. Conducting telephone counseling.
3. Informing survivors of various benefits.
4. Providing personal counseling through Retired Activities Offices (RAO)."
