In 2003 Texas implemented the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), in grades 3 through 11, to replace the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS).

TAKS is a standards-based test, which means it measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Texas.

The goal is that 100% of students pass the TAKS at each grade level. Students in the graduating classes of 2004 had to pass the Exit TAAS in order to graduate from high school while students in succeeding classes must pass the Exit TAKS. "

The McMath Middle School Industrial Technology class is all about helping young people gain experiences that they wouldn't normally have.

We use emerging technology, like Computers, Robots, Electronics, Lasers, Video, and many more, as a vehicle to explore careers. We explore careers in cluster categories like Communications, Construction, Manufacturing, Energy, Power and Transportation.

The curriculum is modular and is divided into computer stations that concentrate on more specific areas like Graphic Design, CNC Machining, Multimedia, Aerodynamics, Environmental Management and City Simulation. With over 20 Technology Modules available and 12 different modules working at the same time our DISD Network and AES Management System keeps everyone on track recording student scores and progress.

Class and group projects provide our students the opportunity to gain practical experience in working together, taking on leadership and responsibility for their own education.

All in all, this is the best class for young people to find out what they like and what they dislike before going on to make informed decisions about their future."
